Location Information
This trail is open to foot and horseback travel only since it is in the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness. The first mile of the trail winds along a ridge top. Then the trail drops in elevation drastically for a half a mile. This part of the trail is steep with many switchbacks until the canyon bottom is reached. The trail then follows a gentle decline along Slick Ear to the Wenaha River.
The trailhead is a turnaround at the end of Road #4600-301, thus parking is very limited. There are many wide areas with room for horse trailers 1/2 mile before the end of the road, or park at twin Buttes Trailhead 1 mile away from Slick Ear.
This trail is lightly used and offers an access to the Wenaha River Area. The view of the North Fork of the Wenaha drainage along the Slick Ear Trail is breathtaking from the top. Water is abundant for stock once the canyon is reached.
