From Brookings, Travel northeast on County Road 784 (North Bank) to Forest Service Road 1376. Follow 1376 northeast to Forest Service Road 1909. Follow 1909 east to spur road 261. Take 261 to the trailhead.
Location Information
Vulcan Peak Trail provides access to the top of Vulcan Peak (4,655 ft.), an old fire lookout site on the southwest edge of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. A magnificent view rewards the traveler, as well as views of other Chetco Ranger District land and activities. This trail can be combined with the equally short trail into Vulcan Lake to round out an enjoyable day hike. Facilities include parking, picnic tables, toilet and trash collection at the trailhead.
