Location Information
Kinzel Lake Trail, built in 1925, spans the distance between the lush river bottom environment along the Salmon River and the dry ridgetop on Hunchback Mountain. The trail travels through timber and is generally well graded gaining approximately 2,000 feet in elevation. Evidence of wildlife can usually be seen on the trail as well as wildflowers, especially rhododendron. A short spur, located about 1/4 mile south of Road 2613, leads to Kinzel Lake and a small primitive campground. Facilities include pit toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables. When incorporated with the Salmon River Trail #742 and Hunchback Trail #793, an interesting 18.4 mile trip exists utilizing a short car shuttle.
