Location Information
The Yocum Ridge Trail features views of the west side of Mt. Hood and the floral displays in the meadows make the first 4.2 miles of the uphill hiking through the forest worthwhile. The only year round water sources on this trail are found at a stream crossing the trail at 2.9 miles and at a tiny spring located approximately 10 feet below the trail at the four mile point. Essentially, the trail switchbacks up the ridge offering a few scattered views until 4.2 miles when it comes through an open meadow area near the edge of the Sandy River Canyon. Here, the view is dominated by the Reid Glacier. The trail traverses up the slope until a viewpoint of the Muddy Fork Canyon and Sandy Glacier is reached. Here the formal maintained trail ends and a "climbers' trial" continues.
