Location Information
The Twin Lakes area has been a resort area since the 1880's. The area was first settled in 1865 by prospectors. During the late 1870's a mining boom occurred in Leadville and silver was discovered in the mountains surrounding Aspen. A route from one mining district to the other was established through Twin Lakes. A few individuals took advantage of this route and created a community that catered to the traveler. The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad also made Twin Lakes one of its stops. Many of the historic charms of this small community remain. On the western shore of Twin Lakes Reservoir to the south of Highway 82 is Twin Lakes Historical Park. The park houses four structures original to Twin Lakes Village and built between 1879 and 1884.
