From Cougar, Follow Primary Forest Route 90 east across the forest boundary. Continue on 90 past the Lower Falls Recreation Area, the Middle Falls Trailhead and the Lewis River Horse Camp to the trailhead.
Location Information
Summit Prairie Trail, a maintained trail, climbs steeply through the forest for two miles, crosses Forest Route 9075 and continues on to Quartz Creek Ridge. It then traverses an open to semi-open ridgetop for four miles before climbing to the old Summit Prairie Lookout. The trail features outstanding panoramas of snowcapped volcanoes and the high open ridges of the Dark Divide Roadless Area. Furthermore, visitors can discover the Summit Prairie fire lookout which was built in 1932.
