From Whitewater, Travel on Hwy 141 approximately thirteen miles to Divide Road #402. Travel thirteen miles on Divide Road #402 to Big Creek Road #403. Take Big Creek Road #403 for approximately six miles to the trail head.The trail follows the rim to the Rim Trail Road. The Snowshoe Trail may be used for a shortened return to the parking area. Cabin Trail can also be used, when the full Unaweep Trail system has been hiked, to return to the parking area. Mileage is approximately thirteen miles, but consideration of return trip will need to be made as adding approximately six miles when using Snowshoe and Basin Trails and approximately six miles when using Cabin Trail.
Location Information
This is the most scenic trail on the Plateau. The Unaweep trail winds around the Rim approximately two thousand feet above the Unaweep Canyon floor and Hwy. 141. This trail provides spectacular views of the rolling sandstone and granite hills of western Colorado and eastern Utah. It also has, one of the clearest views of the Manti-LaSalles in Utah from the Plateau. Timber types and vegetation types are also available for identification. While the Unaweep Trial is a primitive trail, it does have reassurance markers for hiker safety.
