From Ventura, Travel north on Highway 33 to Matilija Canyon Road and turn left (west). Drive up Matilija Canyon Road to a locked gate.
Location Information
GENERAL INFORMATION: Matilija Canyon Trail (23W07) offers Wilderness access with a 8.4 mile trail. Nice for a day or overnight. After the second stream crossing, the trail goes off to your right, entering the wilderness and follows the year-round flowing creek. Matilija Camp is 1.3 miles from the gate, Middle Matilija another 2.6 miles, and Maple Camp is an additional 2.9 miles further. The trail connects with a dirt road that leads down Cherry Canyon to Highway 33. For the northern access point, go 27.1 miles north of Ojai on Highway 33 and turn left on rough dirt road up Cherry Canyon. The trail starts at the southern end of parking area at the ridge top. Road closed in winter.
