From Blue Ridge, Take GA Hwy. 515 .8 mile east to Windy Ridge Road. Turn right and go .2 mile to the dead end with Old US Hwy. 76. Turn left, go .2 miles to Aska Rd on the right.The trailhead is on Aksa Road about 100 yard south of Deep gap. This trail begins at the gravel parking lot on the west side of the road. Visitors can also park in a small area near Stanley Gap on Rock Creek Road and hike the trail east-west from that end.
Location Information
This trail offers a very pleasant hike or bike ride, first overlooking then along the shoreline of Lake Blue Ridge. The forest type is basic Southern Appalachian hardwood with a variety of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.
The trail begins on the east side of Aska road as a gradual climb to the summit of Green Mountain. Alternatively, the hiker can travel the old logging road (lower) segment which is just south on Aska Road of the described trail (upper). The old road joins the trail at the top of Green Mt. On the trail there are five, relatively short, steep ascents but they are not strenuous. The ridge atop Green Mt. provides an overview of Charlie's Cove of Lake Blue Ridge. The trail then descends for 2.4 miles to its terminus on USFS Rd. 711.
