Directions
From Franconia Notch State Park, NH, Travel north on I-93 to US 3 east. Travel about 5 miles to Gale River Loop Road. The trailhead is about 1 mile down the road on the right.
Location Information
Garfield Trail runs about .2 mile east of Garfield Summit, elevation 3,248. Most of the wide trail is an old fire tower road until it approaches the terminus at Garfield Ridge Trail where it narrows and becomes somewhat rocky. Thompson Brook and Spruce Brook must be crossed before reaching Burnt Knoll at 2.8 miles. The trail travels through a conifer and birch forest of varying age.
