Location Information
The Piper Trail is one of the most popular trails in the White Mountain National Forest. It begins behind Davies Campground. Small parking fees apply. The trail enters the woods crossing over a small brook then turns left following an old logging road. At .6 mile Weetamoo Trail intersects from the left. At 1.2 miles Nickerson Ledge Trail enters from the right. Nickerson Ledge Trail offers access to Carter Ledge Trail. Piper Trail begins to ascend steadily over switchbacks offering snatches of panoramic views. At 2.8 miles a small path enters from the left. This spur trail leads to Camp Penacook which is an open shelter with a tent platform and water. The main trail continues to climb up a stone and pavement path reaching heights that afford views to the north, east and south. Another well-worn path in White Mountains is Champney Falls Trail which enters from the right at 3.6 miles. Nearing the summit you'll see Brook Trail which originated just north of SR 113A. The terminus of Piper Trail is Mt. Chocorua which is reached at 4.3 miles at an elevation of 3,500 feet.
