Location Information
This trail leaves the north side of the Base Road directly across from the parking lot. It terminates at the intersection with the Gulfside Trail. At the beginning of the hike the trail crosses the Ammonoosuc River. The trail bears east and passes the intersection of the Boundary Line Trail at 0.3 mile. It then crosses Clay Brook, ascending gradually up a ridge where at 2.8 miles it emerges above the timberline. It switchbacks up the rock strewn slopes to join the Gulfside Trail at 3.5 miles.

Note: The upper 0.7 mile of the Jewell Trail lies above timberline. If weather conditions are uncertain, it is wiser to take the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail which provides access to shelter at the Lakes of the Clouds Hut. This trail also offers access to Mt. Washington via Gulfside Trail.
