Location Information
This is a great half day hike especially suited for families camping at Campton Campground. Excellent views are offered for very little effort along a trail that travels through a forest of jack pine. The trail forks shortly after leaving the parking lot. If you bear right, you'll reach Welch Summit first at an elevation of 2,605. The trail climbs steadily to the summit of Mt. Dickey, 2,734'. The trail then proceeds to descend offering a number of overlooks, several with steep ledges. The path reaches the fork and back to the parking lot under 4.5 miles. This trail does have several steep drop-offs and several points along the trail are rocky and slippery. Due to the lower elevations of this trail, it is one of the first hiking trails each spring.
