From Yampa, Travel S/SW on County Road 7 for approximately 7 miles to FDR 900. Follow FDR 900 approximately 8 1/2 more miles to the trailhead at Stillwater Reservoir. Follow the East Fork Trail #1119, 6 1/2 miles north, past Devil's Causeway, to Round Lake. NOTE: both the East Fork Trail and Lost Lakes Trail are located in the Flat Tops Wilderness so can be traveled only by foot or horseback.
Location Information
Lost Lakes Trail is located in the Flat Tops Wilderness, west of Yampa. Access to Lost Lakes Trail requires the hiker to use the East Fork Trail #1119. Lost Lakes Trail begins at Round Lake, 6.4 miles north of Stillwater Reservoir on trail #1119. From Round Lake, the trail heads west toward Lost Lake Peaks. The trail leads past Long Lake, East Lost Lake, and can access trail #1103 which leads past West Lost Lake. If Lost Lakes Trail is followed, it loops back around to the north, following the West Fork of the Williams Fork and link back into trail #1119 at the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Williams Fork. From this point the traveler may either return by using trail #1119, south to Stillwater Reservoir (8.2 miles), or proceed to Pyramid Guard Station (5.7 miles), located along Forest Road #16, The Flat Tops Scenic Byway. This trail provides access to high mountain lake country with good fishing. but the lakes along this trail receive heavy use. Please remember others will follow.
