Lovell Gulch Trail, #706, is located north of Woodland Park on Rampart Range Road. It is open to foot, horse and bike traffic. Motorized vehicles are prohibited. This is a popular horse trail (please respect other users). The first mile is nearly level, leading north out of Woodland Park along the edge of the timber. Then it crosses a stream and forks where a sign describes the loop ahead as being 3 3/4 miles. If you turn right the trail travels upstream along a narrow meadow for about 1.5 miles. It then climbs to the top of a ridge and loops back to the west along the ridge. This section of the trail offers spectacular views of Pikes Peak and Ute Pass. The descent from this ridge is the steepest section. Turn right at the fork and you are on your way back. Many side trails make this route difficult to follow. Brown plastic markers with white diamonds mark the most direct route. If you keep those in sight this is an easy 5.5 miles. PROFILE:
