Location Information
There is a railroad tie staircase at the northern trailhead, with a handrail at the trailhead; there is also a trail register board. Don't forget to sign in. The tread is awfully narrow for mountain bikes. Beware of protruding foliage. The trail parallels the hogback for about 2 miles, but you have to switchback about 1/2 to reach the ridge. Following the hogback is easy and not steep. There are no views here because of the timber; which includes include scrub oak, white fir and Mexican locust. After about 1.5 miles in there is an open area where there is a good view of the ski area. After the open area about 1/4 mile you will join an old logging road; make sure to follow the road up to the high point . Going down the road takes you to a dead end at a private property boundary. The the high point is about 1 mile away. Then the trail follows the ridge back down through the switchbacks. The trail ends at a parking area. Most hikers take the trail to the viewpoint area and turn around. Not generally used for camping; water is scarce.
