From Downieville, Travel 17 miles east on Hwy. #49 to Bassetts Station, passing through Sierra City. Turn left onto Gold Lake Hwy. at Bassetts Station. Proceed approximately 1.4 miles to the road for Sardine Lake, and turn left. After approximately 0.3 m miles turn right onto Packer Lake Road. Proceed 2.5 miles and turn left onto Forest Road #93 (Packer Saddle Road.) Continue for 1.5 miles to the road junction at the ridge top.From Packer Saddle, travel south on Forest Road #93. After 0.3 miles, road #93 turns right. Continue on road #93 for 0.5 miles to Forest Road #93-3. Turn right onto Forest Road 93-3, toward Butcher Ranch trail sign. Continue for approximately 4.5 miles to the, past the Summit Lake Trailhead until the road ends. Turn left onto the Little Deer Lake trail.
Location Information
Little Deer Lake trail is a short trail to Little Deer Lake and connects onto Summit Lake trail and Snake Lake trail. If you choose to travel to Little Deer Lake you must have a short wheelbase, high clearance vehicle as well. This is an extremely challenging route as it descends to Little Deer Lake and on to the Snake Trail.
