From I-80, Take the Foresthill exit, turn right and proceed 15.5 miles on Foresthill Rd to the Foresthill Ranger Station. Continue 1.2 miles from the Ranger Station and tun r right onto Mosquito Ridge Rd (just past the gas station). Travel approximately 9 miles where you will see the trail sign just after the circular bridge over the Middle Fork of the American River.
Location Information
The North Fork of the Middle Fork Trail is a 1.1 mile easy trail at an elevation of 1,400 feet. This trail gets a moderate amount of use and runs upstream along the North Fork of the Middle Fork American River. Although it is primarily used by people placer mining along the river, other hikers are drawn to this area due to its easy grade, scenic beauty and year round accessibility. This trail is a wonderful choice for early or late season hikes, or a quick conditioning hike, and wildflowers are plentiful during spring.The trail maintains a moderate incline, but levels out after the first quarter mile, until it drops down to the river. Good fishing is available at times, and river access is possible along the trail.
