From Azusa, Travel San Gabriel Canyon Road 25 miles north to the Crystal Lake Recreation Area.
Location Information
GENERAL INFORMATION: For a daylong excursion, this moderate hike is well worth the trip. You'll be able to visit the historic South Mt. Hawkins Fire Road Lookout, one of the few remaining fire lookouts in Southern California. (For you safety, please do not climb the lookout.) You'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness, Crystal Lake, San Gabriel Canyon and beyond. Take the Hawkins Ridge Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail to the Windy Gap Trail for an interesting loop.
