Location Information
Located in the northwestern portion of the state, this loop trail connects two popular Forest Service recreation areas: Shores Lake and White Rock Mountain. It offers an excellent weekend hike up a beautiful creek drainage to the top of spectacular White Rock Mountain, and returns via another creek drainage. White Rock Mountain is 2,260 feet above sea level. On a clear day a person can see 40 miles. On the west trail there are two scenic waterfalls about three miles from Shores Lake.

Users recommend hiking the east trail from Shores Lake to White Rock and the west trail from White Rock back to Shores Lake. The loop can be done in a day but an overnight stay along the route is suggested for those wanting a more leisurely pace.

White Rock offers one of the best spots in the state to watch the sunset. Backcountry camping is allowed along the trail and campgrounds are available at each end. Cabins and a multiperson (dormitory style) lodge are available for rent at White Rock. For reservations, call (501) 369-4128.
