From Mt. Shasta City, Drive east on Alma Street to the first stop sign. Turn right at this intersection. The next intersection also has a stop sign and a blinking red light. Turn left here onto Everitt Memorial Highway. Drive up the highway for 9.5 miles to the junction with the Lower Sand Flat Road. Turn left and proceed for another 0.8 mile to the junction with the Upper Sand Flat Road. Continue straight ahead for a short distance and take the fork to the right. The road then winds through the timber for 0.4 mile to the trailhead. From the Lower Sand Flat Road, remain on the Everitt Memorial Highway for another 1.3 miles to the Bunny Flat parking area. From Bunny Flat, remain on the Everitt Memorial Highway for another 1.7 miles to the junction with Panther Meadows Campground. Turn right into the campground, park in the parking area, and walk to the meadow.
Location Information
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Gray ButteTrail crosses the meadow and provides access to the summit of Gray Butte. Wilderness permits required for entry into Mt. Shasta Wilderness. Contact either Mt. Shasta Ranger District office (530)926-4511 or the McCloud Ranger District office (530)964-2184 for information on how to obtain a permit.
