From Verlot, Travel 15 miles east on the Mt. Loop Hwy. Then turn left on the Coal Lake Road #4060 and continue 4.8 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road.
Location Information
Independence Lake Trail is a moderate 0.7 mile hike. The trail begins at the end of the Coal Lake Road #4060 and ends at Independence Lake. The trail passes through a clear-cut unit that was harvested in 1961, and then enters an old growth timber stand as it drops and rises its way to the lake. The lake is surrounded by forest and is heavily fished. There is camping at the north and south ends of the lake. A trail that continues on to North Lake can be accessed at the northeast end of the lake.
