From Sedro-Woolley, Follow State Route 20 east for 40 miles to the community of Marblemount. As you enter Marblemount, look for a sign directing you to a Ranger Station. Turn left on Ranger Station Road to the National Park Service Ranger Station located one mile from Highway 20. Turn right toward the Wilderness office and continue on the gravel road 200 feet beyond the Park Service barn and stables. The parking area and trailhead are located on the left side.
Location Information
Cow Heaven Trail is a strenuous 4.5 mile hike or horseback ride. The trail gets its name from the ranchers who at one time grazed cattle in the alpine meadows. The first 0.5 miles of the trail follows portions of an old roadbed through a nice stand of old growth hemlock, then begins a long string of switchbacks for the next 2 miles, gaining elevation rapidly. The trail is often dry. The trail is used to access the Noisy Diobsud Wilderness and Olson Lakes by cross country routes.
