Directions
From Yampa, Follow County Road 7 southwest of Yampa to Forest Road 900, continuing on to Yamcolo Reservoir. Just after crossing the dam, go right on Forest Road 906 and follow to the trailhead on Coal Creek. Hike up the Sand Creek Trail #1123 3.3 miles to the junction with the Sawtooth Trail.
Location Information
The Sawtooth Trail is located southwest of Yampa in the Flat Tops. It can be accessed only on foot or horseback, by the Sand Creek Trail #1123. It departs to the west of the Sand Creek Trail in a saddle, 3.3 miles north of the Coal Creek trailhead. The trail climbs into the Flat Tops Wilderness, to the tributaries that make up the headwaters of Trout Creek. It leads to some good fishing in these headwater streams.
