Location Information
This nine mile hike follows the North Fork of the Salmon River up through the Marble Mountain Wilderness. By August the water in the deep pools is warm enough to swim in. Flat areas along the main North Fork of the Salmon and smaller creeks provide fishing access and dispersed camping. There is also potential here for good cross country camping in the early spring, late fall, and winter.

If you take the trail up the Right-hand Fork of the Salmon (trail 10W09) at its intersection with the main trail, you will find additional opportunities for fishing in the solitude of this low use area. Side trips off the main trail lead to a few widely scattered glacial lakes including Shelly, Osprey, and Bug. Campsites are available at Cabin Gulch, Middle Gulch, Grants Meadows, Shelly Meadows or at unmarked locations along the stream. Connecting loops include trails to Etna Summit on the PCT, Shelly Fork and Kidder Creek Trails and Big Meadows Trail.
