From Young, Travel about 28 miles south on State Highway #288, Turn east on FR #189 and travel east for five miles to the trailhead at Oak Creek Cabin. (Please do not disturb the range facilities located here). A high clearance vehicle is recommended for this road.
Location Information
The Coon Creek Trail offers access to the Sierra Ancha Wilderness. The trail runs through the Sierra Ancha Wilderness, therefore all wilderness regulations apply: no mechanized vehicles are allowed. To help preserve the primeval character of this area, practice the "No Trace" technique of travel and camping. The trail parallels Coon Creek at the lower end. There are views of the Salt River and Roosevelt Lake. Wildlife in the area include black bear, deer and javelina, vegetation includes Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, oak and sycamore.
