From Ojai, Travel east on Highway 150 for about eight miles to Forest Road 4N15 and park near the locked gate.
Location Information
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Sisar Canyon/Red Reef Trail offers partial Wilderness access along an eighteen mile trail from Sisar gate to Sycamore Flat along the Sespe River. Easy to moderate hike. Parking at Highway 150 is suggested. Go up Sisar Road, narrow road adjacent to Summit School. Respect private property and speed limits. Hike up the dirt road for 3 miles (from the gate) until the Red Reef Trail leaves the road at a switchback. (If you stay on the road, it switches back up to the ridge after 5.5 more miles). Follow the sign to White Ledge Camp (1.5 miles) which is completely shaded and is nice for the summer months. Water from an artesian spring is usually flowing year-round. Continue on the trail another 2.8 miles to the top. Go east, into the Sespe Wilderness, and travel for 3.4 miles where Nordhoff Ridge Trail (old road) ends, just northwest of Hines Peak. Lady Bug Camp is 2.2 miles from the ridge and is shaded by Big Cone Douglas firs. It has water and lady bugs almost year-round. Sycamore Flat, down on the Sespe River, is another 6.5 miles further. From here, the Sespe River Trail (#11) takes you west (left) to Lion Campground after 8 miles. Hiking east (to the right) will take you to Sespe Hot Springs after 8.5 miles
