Directions
From , The PCT can be accessed from a great number of different points throughout the Scott River Ranger District. Consult a Forest Service map for specifics.
Location Information
The Pacific Crest Trail runs the entire length of the wilderness from north to south. It runs roughly just inside the boundary of the Scott River Ranger District from its northern extremity to the southern border. This National Scenic Trail ties together most of the trails in this district, providing many hiking and riding opportunities. The PCT is located quite high on the ridge, hence, camping opportunities are limited. Also, water sources are widely spaced and lingering snow banks are often encountered throughout the summer. The trail is also subject to late season maintenance. Stockmen should avoid this trail until late in the summer. Paynes Lake is the only lake in the Russian Wilderness Area which is directly accessed by the PCT. All others can be accessed by alternative trails.
