Location Information
The Snake Gulch trail winds past multicolored cliffs, red and yellow painted pictographs, and a few old homesteads. Upon joining Kanab Creek, the trail follows the riparian area with its stream side cottonwoods, red sandstone cliffs, oak thickets, and wide sandy benches. Just south of Jensen Canyon the trail leaves Kanab Creek and at this point becomes Ranger Trail #41. Trail #59 is in a remote area, with limited water, high summer temperatures, and extremely rugged terrain. It is therefore recommended that specific and current information be obtained from the Visitor Center.Trail #59 joins Trail #41 in Kanab Creek Canyon about 3 miles downstream from the confluence with Snake Gulch. Trail #59 continues down the canyon beyond Trail #41, but is not signed or maintained beyond this point. Two miles upstream from Kanab Creek, it is possible to leave Snake Gulch by way of Slide Canyon Trail #58 (not signed or maintained). This trail ends at FR 423, about 7 miles east of Trail #59. Halfway down Trail #59, the Swapp Trail (#50) leaves Snake Gulch, offering another entrance to this area from the BLM side (north) of Snake Gulch.
