From Enumclaw, Drive 21.8 miles east on State Hwy. 410 to West Fork Road #74. Turn right and drive 15.4 miles to the end of the road at Martin Gap. Carbon Trail #1179 is on the right side of the road. Follow it 0.1 mile to trailhead.
Location Information
Clearwater Trail is a strenuous 8.1 mile hike. The trail begins at 4,200 feet at Martin Gap Trailhead on Forest Road #74 and ends at 4,320 feet at Forest Road #7720 trailhead. The trail is primitive and hard to follow at times. Follow the Carbon Trail #1179 for 0.1 mile, turn to the right, where Clearwater Trail #1178 starts. The trail enters the Clearwater Wilderness here. At mile 0.7 is Dry Camp; at mile 2.8 is 1/3 Camp. At mile 3.4 the trail crosses the Clearwater River, then starts climbing. At mile 4.1 is Lily Camp and at mile 7.1 is Celery Meadow, a wet meadow with a campsite. From here, the trail levels off and heads west. At mile 7.6 is the junction with the Rooster Comb Trail #1177-A. From here, the trail switchbacks down to Forest Road #7720, which is across the East Fork of South Prairie Creek.
