Location Information
Camp Rucker was designed to be used primarily by groups. It is located in a grassy area with plenty of open space between oaks, junipers, and Arizona walnuts that provide welcome shade on summer days. A short distance from the camp, Rucker Creek babbles year round. Above the trees that shade the campground, Monte Vista Peak and a number of minor peaks and foothills provide a scenic backdrop.Camp Rucker is located on the Rucker/Tex Canyon scenic drive. Other recreation opportunities in the area include the historic Rucker Military Camp and Ranch, which remain from the days when the US Cavalry and the Chiricahua Apaches were at war throughout this region. Many of the buildings within the outpost are still standing, and interpretive signs give forest visitors a glimpse into their history. Farther up Forest Road #74E, Rucker Lake provides good trout fishing. A number of trails branch off the road and lead into the Chiricahua Wilderness.
