From Leadville, From Leadville travel south on US Hwy 24 to the junction of Colorado Highway 82. Travel west approximately 4 miles to Lake County Road 24. Turn left before you reach the visitor center. This access road will bring you to the northern shore of Twin Lakes Reservoir.
Location Information
Mt. Elbert Family Picnic Ground and Angler Parking shares the northern shore of Twin Lakes reservoir with the following facilities: Mt. Elbert Power Plant & Visitors Center, Power Plant Angler Parking, Big Mac Angler Parking, Whistler Point Angler Parking and Cabin Cove. Recreation opportunities abound in this area. Fishing, boating, hiking, walking, mountain biking, four-wheel driving and horseback riding are easily accessed from this site. Picnic season begins in May and continues to October. The grounds are equipped with tables, toilets, fireplaces and trash collection. Camping is prohibited in these areas. They are restricted to day-use only. All picnic grounds close at 10:00 p.m.
