From La Veta, Take Highway 12 south from La Veta, through Cuchara and past the turnoff for Cuchara Mountain Resort. Cuchara Recreation Area is a right turn onto Forest Road 422 . Along the first two miles of the road are the Day Use and Parking Areas. All day use picnic sites include at least one unit which is handicapped accessible.
Location Information
Cuchara Day Use Picnic Site #4 is located at the 2-mile marker on Forest Road 422. The site is designed as a one way pull-through which allows for parking for three to four RV's and five standard vehicles. There are four constructed family picnic sites with a table and pedestal grill. There is no drinking water but a toilet and garbage cans are provided.This site is used by snowmobilers and cross country skiers in the winter, when the road is closed. Forest Road 422 is a double lane aggregate surfaced road that was reconstructed in 1993. All parking areas are also aggregate surfaced. No overnight camping is allowed in any of these sites. All facilities are new and in excellent condition. Attractions include, hiking, stream fishing and scenic viewing.
