From Gunnison, Drive east on Highway 50 to Highway 114. Turn right on to Highway 114 and drive through the Cochetopa Canyon (good stream fishing). Turn right at the National Forest Access sign and drive towards the Old Agency Work Center (BLM Route 3084). About four miles down the road make another right towards the Old Agency Center. Continue past the station and bear left at the fork getting on Forest Service Road 788 toward Los Pinos Pass. About two miles on that road, on the right, is the road that goes to McDonough Reservoir about one half mile down Still Creek.
Location Information
McDonough Reservoir was constructed as an irrigation storage project on Los Pinos Creek. Consequently, some suckers and dace are to be found, as well as rainbow, brook and native trout. Good catches of rainbow and brookies to twelve inches are often made. Boats are allowed in the reservoir, but no launch facilities are present. Small boats (14 feet) are most popular at this site. There is limited parking for the reservoir. Visitors may experience crowding on weekends and holidays.
