Location Information
Located 15 miles west of the Goosenest Ranger District Office on US 97, Martin's Dairy Campground sits adjacent to a mountain meadow on the Little Shasta River. Goosenest Mountain and Willow Creek Mountain, where the headwaters of the Little Shasta River begin, border the campground. Before 1900 this was a dairy and creamery located on Martin's Ranch. There was a cold spring where butter and cheese were stored before being hauled to the railroad and towns beyond. Martin's Dairy campground has eight sites and offers opportunities for picnicking, bird watching, photography and fishing. It is also a starting point for great mountain biking. Nearby are Little Shasta Meadow, an old Forest Service guard cabin, quaking aspen groves, and a distant view of Mt. Shasta. As it is regularly stocked with trout, the Little Shasta River is an opportune fishing stream. Perrywinkles, which make great trout bait, are abundant in this stream and are usually found under rocks in the slower moving water. Martin's Dairy Horse Camp is located ' mile north of the main campground. There are 4 camp units, but horse trailer space is limited. Facilities include picnic tables, grills, fire rings, a vault toilet, and a 4 stall corral. There are numerous gated logging trails in the area that can be used as horse trails. In either campground, water and garbage service are available from May to October only. The area may be accessible during the off season with restricted services. The campground is not usable by people with disabilities. There are no group sites available.
