Location Information
This small, out of the way campground is located on the banks of West Turkey Creek, a sprightly little stream that flows from the highest of the Chiricahua high country. In the vicinity of the campground, the creek tumbles over rocky cascades past colorful streamside wildflowers. The riparian area the stream supports includes healthy populations of silver-barked Arizona sycamores and other water-loving vegetation which, in turn, support a diverse community of birds and other wildlife.Rocky, flat-topped peaks form the rim of the canyon here. Forest trails branch off from the road to follow the side canyons that wander among them. All of those trails are a just a short drive from the campground. Forest roads are rough and dusty and may be muddy and slick when wet. There is a flash flood danger at water crossings following summer and winter storms.
