Location Information
A series of beautiful cascades grace Cave Creek as it flows past John Hands Campground and Picnic Area. Tables and fire grills are located in the shade of the streamside trees within view of the creek. This is not a large area and sites are close together. Camping here is limited to tents only.

This particular camp at Cave Creek is a bit off the beaten path within a popular recreation area, but nonetheless provides access to a number of forest trails and scenic drives. Bird watching right at the campground is quite good. Coues white-tailed deer are also plentiful in the area. The Southwestern Research Station of the American Museum of Natural History is located just downstream of John Hands and occasionally presents programs on natural history which are open to the public.

Other recreational opportunities in the vicinity include Greenhouse Trail #248 which provides the best views of the spectacular Winn Falls. Also The Basin #600 and Ash Spring #247A trail offer easy hikes near the campground.
