Directions
From Highway 4, On the east shore of Lake Alpine turn south on a road just east of Chickaree Picnic Area. The campground is located halfway between Highway 4 and Pine Marten Campground.
Location Information
Backpacker's Camp sits in a dense lodgepole pine and fir forest within view of Lake Alpine at 7,300 feet. Backpacking from the Silver Valley trailhead available nearby.

Backpacker's Camp is a primitive campground with ten walk-in campsites, piped water and flush toilets nearby. Public showers are also available at Lake Alpine Lodge. There is no parking at the immediate site, however, parking is available at the Silver Valley Trailhead or Chickaree Picnic Area. Emergency medical services are also available at the Arnold Medical Clinic in the Meadowmont Shopping Center in Arnold, or at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas (Hwy. 49). If you need gas, groceries and camping supplies they are available in Bear Valley and at Lake Alpine Lodge. Public (fee) showers found at Lake Alpine Lodge.
