Directions
From Weed, From the junction of Weed's Main Street and Highway 97, drive 5.3 miles on the highway to the Hotlum Road. Turn right onto Hotlum Road. Follow the dirt road for 1.6 miles and cross the railroad tracks. Go another 0.3 mile to the junction with a jeep road to the right. Take the jeep road for another 0.5 mile to a fork in the road. Follow the fork to the right for 0.2 mile to the Black Lava Trailhead.
Location Information
GENERAL INFORMATION: From the Black Lava Trailhead, follow the old jeep road as it goes through one of the more forested parts of the wilderness, approximately a 3 mile hike one way along this dead-end trail. Wilderness permits required for entry into Mt. Shasta Wilderness. Contact either Mt. Shasta Ranger District office (530)926-4511 or the McCloud Ranger District office (530)964-2184 for information on how to obtain a permit.
