Manchester State Park covers 111 acres with 3,400 feet of saltwater shoreline on Rich Passage. It is part of the Cascadia Marine Trail system for human powered and wind powered beachable craft. One Cascadia campsite is located along the shoreline.Historic buildings dating to the turn of the century when the site was a U.S. Coast Artillery Harbor Defense installation are still intact for viewing. The Torpedo Warehouse is a unique turn-of-the-century military structure. The architectural design of this brick structure includes arched doorways and windows. Also located in the park are a gun battery and a mining casemate.
Other park amenities are a group day reservation area (capacity 150 persons), two small picnic shelters (capacity of 20 persons each), a bathhouse, a 53-unit campground with two comfort stations, a kiosk and a trailer dump station. Manchester State Park is part of the Campsite Reservation System.
A PLU Research Laboratory is located in the park.
Activities enjoyed in the park include scuba diving, fishing, picnicking, camping, hiking and interpretation.
The low rolling hills and sheltered inland salt water that make up the Puget Sound basin produce a mild, marine climate characterized by wintertime clouds, rain, and sometimes a light snow, but lots of summertime sunshine.
Maximum winter temperatures are in the mid- to high 40s with minimum temperatures in the mid 30s. Summers are warm with maximum and minimum temperatures in the mid 70s and low 50s, respectively. This area averages 51 inches of precipitation per year.
