Kitsap Memorial State Park contains 57 acres with 1,800 feet of saltwater frontage with one mooring buoy and an unguarded beach. The one-mile trail to the beach offers a sweeping view of the Hood Canal and Olympic Peninsula area.Park facilities include 25 standard campsites, 18 campsites with water and electrical hookups, three primitive campsites for hikers or bicyclists, a group camp with two Adirondack shelters, 51 picnic sites, two restrooms, two shelters, a meeting hall and a Big Toys play area.
Of special interest is a log hall that sits atop a wooded bluff, providing spectacular views of Hood Canal and the snowcapped Olympic Mountains. The space inside and out lends itself to weddings, company picnics, or family reunions. The hall has an open log cathedral ceiling with an expansive 3,200-square-foot floor space. There also is a small kitchen and restroom.
Recreational activities within the park include camping, picnicking, hiking, volleyball, fishing, marine recreation, oyster and clam harvesting and group gatherings.
The climate in this area is influenced by both the Olympic Mountains and the bodies of water that surround the Olympic Peninsula. It is generally a marine climate, mild and temperate, with the Pacific Ocean moderating temperatures throughout the year.
Winters are cool and cloudy with rain and some snow. Maximum winter temperatures are in the mid- to high 40s with minimum temperatures in the mid 30s. Summers are warm and relatively dry with maximum and minimum temperatures in the mid 70s and low 50s, respectively. This area averages 51 inches of precipitation per year.
