Scofield is both a summer and winter recreation delight. It is situated 7,600 feet above sea level in the Manti-LaSal Mountains of the Wasatch Plateau. The 2,800-acre lake offers excellent boating and year-round fishing. During winter months, the area serves as a base for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in spectacular mountains surrounding the park.Three state-owned facilities are available for recreationists within Scofield State Park. Mountain View, located six miles north of Scofield, offers a 34-unit campground, modern rest rooms, hot showers, fish cleaning and sanitary disposal stations, day-use area, rental boat slips and boat launching ramp. Madsen Bay, located on the north end of the reservoir, is a popular area for
groups and family reunions. Facilities include a 40-unit campground, modern rest rooms, fish cleaning and sanitary disposal stations, boat ramp and parking. Lakeside day-use area offers modern rest rooms, a group-use pavilion and a fishing platform for the disabled.
Visitors flock to Scofield State Park in the summer for swimming, boating, fishing, camping and picnicking. During the winter months this site is used as a base camp for activities in the surrounding Wasatch mountains.
Scofield State Park lies in the Wasatch Mountains at an elevation of 7,600 feet. Like the rest of Utah, this area is relatively arid. Summers are pleasant with hot days and cool evenings. Spring and fall weather can vary dramatically, so be prepared for a variety of conditions with layers of clothing. Winter can be cold with snow. Much of the precipitation accumulated throughout the year occurs in this season. Dress in warm layers for winter, but bring sunscreen and sunglasses. A brimmed hat is essential in every season due to the high elevation of this site.
