Jordan River State Park can be included in the list of Salt Lake City's parks. It encompasses 440 acres, nearly five miles in length, that provide access to the Jordan River for Salt Lake City residents and visitors. The park is open year-round for day use, with canoe rentals available during the summer. Along the paved walking trail visitors will find modern restrooms, canoe rental sites, various put-in and take out points, picnic tables, group-use pavilions, a jogging/exercise course, model airplane facility, nine-hole golf course and off-highway vehicle riding area.

This site lies at an elevation of 4,200 feet. The climate of the area is generally arid, as is the entire state of Utah. Winter temperatures are mild in Salt Lake City, when compared to that of the surrounding mountains. Snowfall is a common occurrence during the winter and a major source of water for the region. Summer temperatures can soar past 90 degrees F for much of July and August. Afternoon thunder showers often pass through the Salt Lake Basin cooling temperatures slightly. Visitors should be prepared with a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen in every season.
