The Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail State Park is a 28-mile trail for nonmotorized use. The trail begins (or ends) at Park City and follows Interstate 80 through Wanship and Coalville to Echo Reservoir. Elevations range from 6,900 to 5,280 feet.Facilities along this trail are currently being developed. Vault toilets are available along the route. The area is open for day-use only but camping is available nearby. Rockport State Park, near Wanship on State Route 32 offers eight campgrounds with both developed and primitive camping in a variety of settings. The trail is open year-round, with cross-country skiing in the winter.
Recreation opportunities available along the Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, running, and wildlife viewing. In the winter the trail offers cross-country skiing.
Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail State Park lies in the eastern mountains of Utah, reaching an elevation of 6,900 feet, which makes for mild summers and cold winters. The area gets most of its precipitation in the form of winter snow and late summer thunderstorms. Like the rest of the state this area is relatively arid.
