Edge of the Cedars State Park lies in Blanding, Utah, in the Four Corners region of the state. It preserves and protects the ruins of an ancient Puebloan community. The museum on the property serves as a repository for artifacts found in the area. Within it there are also exhibits on the Ute, Navajo and European peoples that have settled in the Four Corners area. Drinking water and modern restrooms are available on site.This small state park encompasses 16 acres that include six ancient pueblo dwellings, a museum and picnic area. One of the six pueblo sites has been excavated and reconstructed and is open to the public. The museum contains changing and permanent exhibits on the diverse peoples who have settled the region. An observation tower provides a perspective of the surrounding terrain with interpretive panels marking natural features in the landscape. Drinking water is available at this site.
The fascinating history of the Ancestral Puebloan people can be discovered at Edge of the Cedars State Park through viewing historical sites, reading interpretive panels and touring the reconstructed pueblo.
The climate of southeastern Utah is extremely dry and usually mild, but because the elevation of Blanding is near 6,200 feet temperatures usually drop after the sun sets. The area is very hot during the summer months with daily temperatures rising above 90 degrees F. Winter daytime highs often reach 60 degrees with temperatures dropping to freezing or below at night. A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and water are recommended for every season.
