This state park encompasses Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. It is characterized by abundant and varied wildlife, as well as a historic ranch site and many recreation facilities. The site is entrenched in Utahan history and is surrounded by one of the state's unique natural features, the Great Salt Lake.At Antelope Island State Park visitors will find a campground with modern facilities, biking and hiking trails, a historic ranch site, interpretive exhibits, picnicking facilities and a swimming beach.
Hiking, biking and wildlife viewing are the highlighted activities at Antelope Island State Park. Camping is permitted on the island year round and group camping and picnicking sites are available. Opportunities for photography, viewing interpretive exhibits and visiting a historic site are also available on Antelope Island.
Antelope Island ranges in elevation from approximately 4,500 feet to 6,565 feet. It lies within the Great Salt Lake Basin which receives relatively mild winter weather in contrast to the mountains surrounding it. Summer temperatures can soar to 90 degrees F, but the elevation (and afternoon thunderstorms) help to cool the air slightly at night. This region, like the whole state, is generally arid. Most of the precipitation comes in the form of snow, during the winter months, and thunderstorms during the late summer.
