Natchez Trace State Park was named for the famous "Natchez to Nashville" highway, an important wilderness road during the early 18th and early 19th centuries. A western spur of The Trace ran through a portion of what is now the park. The park is not connected with the Natchez Trace Parkway since it is administered by the National Park Service.Natchez Trace State Park features the third largest pecan tree in North America. Legend has it that the tree grew from a pecan presented to a settler by one of Andrew Jackson's men as they returned from the Battle of New Orleans. The restaurant at Natchez Trace Park over looks the pool and beautiful Pin Oak Lake.
Other points of interest are Brown Creek Lake and Maple Creek Lake.
Within the many acres of scenic woodlands, visitors will also find four lakes, a swimming beach, a 20-unit resort inn and restaurant complex, cabins, group lodge, facilities for fishing and boating, camping areas, picnicking sites, playgrounds, a ball field, a regulation pistol firing range, picturesque hiking trails, a wrangler camp, 250 miles of horse riding trails, a park store, and an archery range. The area provides not only recreation, but managed hunting as well.
Other activities include archery, basketball, horseshoes, ping-pong, softball, tennis courts (2 courts), volleyball, board games and electronic games.
Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March bringing flowering trees and shrubs, and warmer weather. Spring temperatures average between 45 and 70 degrees. Summer's full force arrives in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. The mountains of eastern Tennessee are a great place to escape the hot summer temperatures as the higher elevation cools the air slightly. Cool fall temperatures bring crisp air and brilliant fall colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall foliage.
