Kings Mountain State Park rests in a picturesque setting stretching along the South Carolina and North Carolina border. The park's "Living History Farm" preserves a collection of 19th century log and timber structures from the Piedmont region. Here, visitors can get a glimpse of the lifestyle of this area's early pioneers. Each September this farm is the site of the Pioneer Days Festival, which features crafts, music and muzzleloaders competition. Next to the park is Kings Mountain National Military Park, a prominent Revolutionary War battle site, and is easily accessible from I-85.

The park has a campground with 119 sites as well as two group campsites and a horse camp. The individual sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The park offers the 16 mile King Mountain hiking trail as well as a 17-mile equestrian trail. Private boats are NOT allowed on park lake but fishing boats and canoes are available for rental. A park store provides some basic supplies.

King Mountain Park offers numerous recreation activities. These activities include hiking, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, and viewing historic sites.

South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.
