South Carolina's first state park property and originally built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Cheraw State Park is located in the sandhills region. The park's 360-acre lake offers fishing and various recreational opportunities in a beautiful setting. Towering cypress trees at the upper end of the lake are among the park's best kept secrets. Cabins and lakefront campsites are available for overnight guests. A championship 18-hole golf course with a full-service pro shop is the park's newest addition. Eight one-bedroom/one bath cabins accommodate 4 people each . Contact the park for reservations, and specifics on cabins. The campground has 17 campsites which are rented on a first-come, first-served basis, except for 1 site which may be reserved exclusively for the handicapped. Each site has individual water and electrical hookups, fire ring and picnic table. There are two group camp sites. The park's newest addition is an 18-hole championship golf course and pro shop. The park's equestrian trails connect to Sandhills State Forest equestrian trails. Other park amenities include: walking and nature trails, fishing, equestrian facilities, picnic shelters, and playground equipment.
Cheraw State Park offers numerous outdoor recreation activities. The main activities are camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding and golfing. Seasonal lake swimming and rental pedal boats are offered upon availability of lifeguards.
South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.
