Reeds Gap State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and dedicated to public use in 1938. Reeds Gap is a natural water gap in Thick Mountain, also called Hightop. It was named for early settlers in the area, Edward and Nancy Reed. The original Reed home is located just east of the park. A major developmental phase started in 1965 when the swimming pools replaced the old dam. Shortly thereafter, a new water system, flush toilets, a modern bathhouse, concession stand, maintenance building, and parking lots were constructed. Today, the park offers fishing, swimming, hiking, camping and hunting.
Handicapped facilities are available throughout the park.

Reeds Gap State Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities during every season of the year. Fishing, swimming, hiking and camping are the most popular pastimes at Reeds Gap.
Ninety-six acres in Reeds Gap State Park are open to hunting, trapping and the training of dogs during established Pennsylvania Game Commission hunting seasons, with the exception of: 1) hunting of woodchucks also known as groundhogs is prohibited and 2) dog training is only permitted from the day following Labor Day to March 31 in designated hunting areas. Pennsylvania Game Commission rules and regulations are in effect for all activities in the park. Common game species include grouse, turkey, squirrel, deer, and bear.
A public pay telephone is located near the pool parking lot. A limited summertime refreshment concession is offered at the park. The nearest store and gas station are located 5 miles away at Siglerville. Restaurants are located in the Milroy and Reedsville area.
Some picnic tables, the middle restroom, the park office and the pool are accessible by wheelchair. Service roads may be used to provide access for people with disabilities. Parking permits are available from the park office.
